Dalton to Succeed Sundall as PCI CEO January 1

Physicians’ Clinic of Iowa, one of eastern Iowa’s largest specialty medical centers, has announced a transition in executive leadership.

As part of the transition, Michael D. Sundall, FACMPE, has announced that he will retire as Chief Executive Officer of PCI on December 31, after 13 years with the organization. Eric Dalton, FACMPE, will become PCI’s new CEO, after most recently serving as the organization’s Chief Administrative and Financial Officer.

“Physicians’ Clinic of Iowa will continue to grow and innovate to serve this community’s healthcare needs,” Dalton said. “This organization remains energized and ready to deliver the highest quality care in eastern Iowa. Our team of dedicated staff and physicians will remain focused on patient experiences and satisfaction, and emphasize introducing state-of-the-art new services and procedures to this area.”

“I am so proud of the accomplishments our teams have made and I’m grateful to have worked with so many devoted, forward-thinking professionals. PCI is truly a family and I could not have imagined being anywhere else,” Sundall said. “I’m looking forward to spending more time with my family and I’m excited about the future of PCI. Eric’s proven ability to lead change, drive process improvement, and accomplish organizational goals, uniquely positions him to lead PCI to further success.”

Physicians’ Clinic of Iowa, a local leader in healthcare administration in the Corridor, has noted years of record growth and expansion. In the past 10 years, the organization significantly increased patient volume, added more than 30 physicians and midlevel providers, welcomed several new specialties, and created a thriving campus in the heart of Cedar Rapids’ Medical Quarter District.

Sundall joined Physicians’ Clinic of Iowa in May 2008 and led PCI’s decade-long transformation into one of the area’s most trusted medical providers. Most notably, Sundall spearheaded the construction and operational execution of PCI Medical Pavilion, the area’s first “medical mall” concept. Opened in 2013, the Medical Pavilion the first of its kind in eastern Iowa, bringing together specialty healthcare clinics and complementary services under one roof. A native of Boone, Iowa, Sundall earned a Bachelor of Business Administration degree in Finance from Minnesota State University and is a member of the Medical Group Management Association (MGMA) and a Fellow of American College of Medical Practice Executives (FACMPE).

Dalton has been with PCI since October 2006. Prior to joining PCI, he spent 12 years in a variety of progressive roles with healthcare organizations in Minneapolis and Cedar Rapids.  He also spent time in public accounting as a practicing CPA.  Dalton is a Certified Medical Practice Executive and Fellow in the American College of Medical Practice Executives. He received his bachelor’s degree in accounting from the University of Northern Iowa in Cedar Falls and obtained his master’s degree in business administration from Upper Iowa University in Fayette, with extensive master’s level coursework completed at the University of St. Thomas in St. Paul.  He is a member of the Medical Group Management Association and Iowa Society of CPA’s. Dalton has served on numerous professional and personal boards, committees and advisory groups over the years and is currently a member of the Rotary Club of Cedar Rapids.
