Physicians' Clinic of Iowa ENT now offers Genio®, an FDA-approved treatment for moderate to severe Obstructive Sleep Apnea (OSA). Genio therapy is a mask-free option that works by stimulating the hypoglossal nerve on both sides of the tongue to contract the tongue muscles and keep the airway open throughout the night.

How the Genio System works

  • The Genio System combines a battery-free stimulator with a sleep wearable that externally powers the device.
  • The implantable stimulator is placed under the chin during a one-time outpatient surgical procedure.
  • The sleep wearable combines a disposable patch with an external battery, also called an activation chip, worn under the chin while sleeping.
  • Genio therapy is activated approximately 8 weeks post procedure, when it can be controlled through an optional smartphone app that offers device usage tracking and the ability to adjust therapy within a predefined range.
  • The activation chip is charged daily via a small portable charger wherever is convenient, even during travel.
