Longtime Cedar Rapids Neurologist Announces Retirement from Physicians' Clinic of Iowa

Andrew C. Peterson, MD, FAASM, a neurologist and sleep medicine specialist with Physicians’ Clinic of Iowa, is announcing his retirement after practicing in the Cedar Rapids community for more than 30 years. Dr. Peterson will retire from practice on May 30.

Throughout his years as a neurologist, Dr. Peterson was one of the few in this area who provided care for children.  He helped numerous families cope with seizure disorders, Ehrler’s Danlos Syndrome, migraine headaches, obstructive sleep apnea, cerebral palsy, Tourette’s Syndrome and provided support for area neonatal intensive care units (NICUs).

“It has been an honor and an education to help children, families and adults over the years,” said Dr. Peterson. “I have taken care of multiple generations in some families.  The medical community here is outstanding and has helped me take care of so many people.  I will miss you all.”

Before starting practice at PCI, Dr. Peterson was a highly decorated United States Army servicemember. Dr. Peterson served from 1978 – 1991, earning the Army Achievement Medal, the Meritorious Service Medal and the Expert Field Medical Badge. Prior to his service in the US military, Dr. Peterson attended undergraduate college at Tehran American School in Tehran, Iran, and Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT). He earned his medical degree at Albany Medical College of Union University. His internship in Internal Medicine was completed at Walter Reed Army Medical Center in Washington D.C. He completed a residency in Neurology at a joint program through Letterman Army Medical Center and the University of California, San Francisco, CA.

Along with his duties at PCI, Dr. Peterson is the sleep lab medical director of the Eastern Iowa Sleep Center, Cedar Rapids and Belle Plaine, and Jones Regional Medical Center, Anamosa.
