Physicians' Clinic of Iowa Neurology Provides Coverage at St. Luke's Hospital
Physicians’ Clinic of Iowa Neurology will provide inpatient neurological coverage solely at UnityPoint Health – St. Luke’s Hospital effective September 1, 2025.
The shift enables PCI Neurology to prioritize acute coverage for neurological inpatient and emergent needs while maintaining the evolving demands of neurologic care. The neurology team at PCI has long provided both inpatient and outpatient services across the Cedar Rapids area, but the new focus allows the group to maintain the current outpatient needs.
“Our neurology team is committed to ensuring patients in Cedar Rapids and the surrounding communities have access to high-quality, comprehensive neurological care,” said Dr. Robert Struthers, PCI Neurology Department Chair. “By focusing our inpatient services at UnityPoint Health – St. Luke’s, we can deliver timely, coordinated care for those facing urgent neurological needs while continuing to support the growing demand for outpatient services. This partnership strengthens our ability to provide the right care, in the right setting, at the right time.”
This newly developed physician-hospital partnership will better serve patients who need comprehensive treatment of disorders affecting the brain, spinal cord, nervous system, muscles and neuromuscular junctions. PCI Neurology consists of three board certified neurologists and five advanced practice providers who treat patients of all ages. Services range from acute stroke treatment and stroke prevention as well as treatment of a variety of other neurologic disorders including migraine, neuropathic disorders, multiple sclerosis and other acute and chronic conditions.
“Partnering exclusively with PCI’s expert neurologists is truly exciting for the patients and families we serve,” said Casey Greene, UnityPoint Health – Cedar Rapids President. “Having highly trained neurologists, dedicated to St. Luke’s, helps us deliver exceptional healthcare to those in need.”
This is the third independent physician practice in the Cedar Rapids community that has chosen to work exclusively at St. Luke’s Hospital. Last week PCI Urology announced an exclusive partnership with St. Luke’s and in December 2024, the area’s only local anesthesiology practice, also announced exclusivity at St. Luke’s Hospital.
