PCI First in Midwest to Perform New Sleep Apnea Implant

Physicians’ Clinic of Iowa (PCI) is proud to announce that its Ear, Nose & Throat/Head and Neck Surgery department is the first and only medical clinic in the Midwest to commercially offer the Genio™ system by Nyxoah—a groundbreaking, minimally invasive implant for the treatment of obstructive sleep apnea (OSA).

Recently approved by the FDA, Genio™ is a revolutionary solution designed to improve sleep quality and reduce the health risks associated with OSA. Unlike traditional therapies such as CPAP machines, Genio is a battery-free, leadless implant that stimulates the tongue muscle to maintain an open airway during sleep—all without the need for bulky equipment or hoses.

Thomas Heineman, MD, ENT surgeon at Physicians’ Clinic of Iowa and the first in the region to perform a Genio implant, post FDA approval, and will be leading the new treatment initiative. “We’re incredibly excited to bring this innovative solution to Eastern Iowa and beyond,” said Dr. Heineman. “Genio offers a discreet, patient-friendly option for those who have struggled with CPAP or other treatments. It represents a major advancement in how we manage obstructive sleep apnea.”

Genio™ is designed for patients with moderate to severe OSA who are unable to tolerate CPAP therapy. The system is implanted during an outpatient procedure and is externally activated each night via a small, wireless sleep unit worn under the chin.

PCI’s introduction of Genio furthers its commitment to delivering world-class, comprehensive ENT care to patients throughout the Midwest. To learn more about Genio™ and whether it may be an option for you, visit www.geniosleep.com/us or contact Physicians’ Clinic of Iowa ENT at (319) 399-2022.
