Physicians Clinic of Iowa Adds New Specialty Two New Physicians to Medical Staff

Justin J. Gilbert, MD, and James E. Huber, DO, have both joined the medical staff at Physicians’ Clinic of Iowa in the multispecialty clinic’s newly created Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation department. Dr. Gilbert specializes in musculoskeletal medicine with an emphasis on interventional spine care. Dr. Huber specializes in kinetic chain diagnosis and treatment, musculoskeletal medicine, cancer rehabilitation, spasticity management, and occupational rehabilitation.

Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation physicians, also known as Physiatrists, diagnose and treat patients of all ages in three main areas:

  • Physical Medicine, which includes sports/occupational injuries, musculoskeletal injuries such as back pain, chronic degenerative conditions such as osteoarthritis, and pain syndromes that affect function.
  • Rehabilitation Medicine, which focuses on the chronic effects of stroke, multiple sclerosis, traumatic brain injury, spinal cord injury, amputations, and cancer that include spasticity, fatigue, immobility, pain, lymphedema, neuropathy, and bowel/bladder management to enhance function and quality of life.
  • Electrodiagnositc Medicine that focuses on the diagnosis of peripheral nerve injuries such as nerve entrapment, plexopathy, radiculopathy, and traumatic injury. 

The treatment involves the entire person and addresses the physical, social, psychosocial, and emotional needs to optimize the patient’s function.

Dr. Gilbert earned his medical degree from Louisiana State University School of Medicine, New Orleans and completed his residency in Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation at Carolinas Rehabilitation, Charlotte, NC. He is fellowship trained in Musculoskeletal and Interventional Spine and is board-eligible with the American Board of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation. Learn more about Dr. Gilbert >>

Dr. Huber earned his medical degree from Rowan University School of Osteopathic Medicine, Glassboro, NJ and completed residency in Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation at New York Presbyterian Hospital, Columbia/Cornell.
