Physicians’ Clinic of Iowa is excited to announce the addition of a new cardiothoracic surgeon. Tyrone M. Galbreath, DO, joined PCI’s department of Cardiothoracic Surgery this month.
A native of northwest Iowa, Dr. Galbreath earned bachelor of science degrees in Philosophy and Biology from Creighton University in Omaha and his Doctorate of Osteopathic Medicine from Des Moines University. He completed a General Surgery residency at York Hospital in York, Pennsylvania, and an additional fellowship in Cardiothoracic Surgery at the University of Mississippi, in Jackson.
Dr. Galbreath joins an experienced team at PCI. “As a new cardiothoracic surgeon joining Physicians’ Clinic of Iowa, and working primarily at St. Luke’s Hospital--Unity Point Cedar Rapids, I am excited to join a strong multispecialty group and medical group with a tradition of providing patient-first care,” he said. “I am fortunate to have excellent partners, Dr. James Levett and Dr. Garry Weide, who have a well-established reputation of providing excellent cardiothoracic surgical management in the community. Along with performing the cardiac operations currently performed, I will also provide surgical care for extra-cardiac pathologies in the chest.”
His medical special interests include valvular heart disease, coronary revascularization, aortic diseases, hiatal hernia repair, esophageal and lung cancers, minimally invasive thoracic surgery, and rib and sternal stabilization.
“College and surgical training allowed me to travel all over the US. Growing up in rural northwest Iowa planted a seed that I knew eventually I would return to,” he said. “‘Iowa nice’ is a real thing! In exploring Iowa job opportunities, I was taken with the genuinely kind and caring culture that is exhibited throughout PCI from the schedulers to my future partners and the administration. People are genuinely happy at PCI and that shared posture is just one of the many reasons that PCI is a great place to work!”
