Physicians’ Clinic of Iowa’s 100,000-square-foot facility expansion is proceeding on schedule, contractors for the project announced today. The building is nearly complete and will be ready for PCI clinics to move in at the end of January.
“We were beyond excited to receive word that Medical Pavilion 2 will be complete soon,” said Michael Sundall, Chief Executive Officer at PCI. “Major space expansion was needed to accommodate our swiftly growing medical specialties. Our staff and medical providers are looking forward to occupying their new spaces and treating their patients in a peaceful, upscale atmosphere.”
PCI Medical Pavilion 2, located at 275 10th Street SE, Cedar Rapids, is the second “medical mall” concept spearheaded by PCI. PCI Medical Pavilion 1 opened in 2013 and was the first of its kind in eastern Iowa, bringing together specialty healthcare clinics and complementary services under one roof. BBL Medical Facilities of Albany, NY, is the architect and general contractor for both PCI Medical Pavilion 1 and 2 projects, with local subcontractors being utilized for all aspects of the construction project.
Construction on the multimillion dollar expansion began in early 2018 and moved quickly, unhampered by exceptionally cold and wet weather conditions. A second skywalk, spanning 2nd Avenue SE, was added over the summer, completing the patient convenience vision of the second medical mall. “We intended for our patients to be able to park in either parking ramp and be able to get to their appointments without worrying about traffic or weather conditions,” Sundall said.
Medical Pavilion 2 first floor will house the new PCI Primary Care and Wellness Center, which includes Family Medicine, Internal Medicine and Walk-in Care. A fully equipped diagnostic laboratory will also be located on the first floor.
Second floor will be home to Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation Specialists, the PCI Spine Center, Podiatry and Foot Health Specialists, Vascular and Endovascular Surgery Specialists and complementary tenants. For patient convenience, diagnostic x-ray imaging services also will be offered on the second floor of Pavilion 2.
The third floor will be occupied by PCI’s Neurology and Sleep Medicine Specialists and the Eastern Iowa Sleep Center.
“Our vision is to create a medical destination where patients can feel comforted each time they walk through our doors, knowing they can expect top quality care from the region’s leading specialists, as well as thoughtful amenities and conveniences,” Sundall continued. “It’s exciting knowing that we’re able to bring a premier medical destination to the Corridor.”
Medical Pavilion 2 Open House is planned for January 23, 2020, from 4-6 p.m. A brief ribbon cutting ceremony will be held at 4:30 pm. Light refreshments will be provided. The community will have an opportunity to tour the new facility prior to clinics occupying the space.
