CEDAR RAPIDS—October 12, 2011—Physicians’ Clinic of Iowa (PCI), a multidisciplinary medical specialty group, welcomes the addition of Dr. Kyle D. Switzer, orthopaedic surgeon, to its team of providers.
Dr. Switzer is a fellowship-trained physician with experience in medical and surgical treatments for injuries involving bones, joints, ligaments, muscles, and tendons. Minimally invasive procedures for ACL reconstruction, cartilage injuries, rotator cuff repair, and tennis elbow are just a few of the many orthopaedic problems Dr. Switzer treats in addition to total joint replacement for knees and shoulders.
As a member of the Arthroscopy Association of North America, Dr. Switzer specializes in offering arthroscopic surgery for sports injuries of the knee, shoulder, ankle, and elbow. This minor surgical procedure allows him to look at the inside of a joint through a thin viewing instrument called an arthroscope and then repair the joint problem. Minimally invasive in nature, patients can expect less pain and faster recovery than traditional open surgery.
“I enjoy fully educating my patients on their full spectrum of treatment options, from conservative to operative,” says Dr. Switzer.
A Cedar Rapids native, Dr. Switzer earned his Bachelor of Science degree in Biology, with a minor in Chemistry from the University of Northern Iowa. He completed his medical training at Des Moines University Medical School in central Iowa and served his internship and orthopaedic residency at Ingham Regional Medical Center in Lansing, Michigan, part of Michigan State University.
Dr. Switzer went on to obtain further training at Orthopaedic Research of Virginia in Richmond, Virginia where he spent a year of clinical experience in diagnostic and operative arthroscopy. As a fellow he participated in sports medicine team coverage of local high school and college athletic programs, providing on-site coverage of sporting events, pre-season physicals, and office and surgical support for area athletes.
He is board certified with the National Board of Osteopathic Medical Examiners and is a member of both the Arthroscopy Association of North America and American Orthopaedic Society for Sports Medicine.
Joining a team of 15 orthopaedic surgeons, Dr. Switzer’s office is located at 600 7th Street SE, Cedar Rapids, IA. He will also provide surgical services at Mercy Medical Center, St. Luke’s Hospital and Surgery Center Cedar Rapids.
Patients may be referred to Dr. Switzer, DO by calling (319) 398-1545.
