Physicians’ Clinic of Iowa Medical Pavilion Holds Groundbreaking Ceremony

Date: 05.19.2011

Iowa Gov. Terry Branstad and city leaders celebrate investment in downtown Cedar Rapids

Cedar Rapids, Iowa–May 19, 2011–Physicians’ Clinic of Iowa broke ground May 19 for the new Physicians’ Clinic of Iowa Medical Pavilion, the first of its kind in Iowa.  The ceremony was conducted at the future site of the facility, 202 10th St. SE.

Speakers included Iowa Gov. Terry Branstad, Cedar Rapids Mayor Ron Corbett, Richard Pankey, co-chair of the Medical District Steering Committee; and Physicians’ Clinic of Iowa doctors.

The Physicians’ Clinic of Iowa Medical Pavilion, next to I-380 in Cedar Rapids’ proposed medical district, will be a single-stop specialty care destination – a state-of-the-art ambulatory care facility that brings coordinated services together under one roof and creates an environment for collaboration that delivers better care and faster service.

“This ceremony marks the culmination of 14 years of work toward building better health care in the Cedar Rapids area,” said Dr. Bill Devine, President of PCI. “The new Physicians’ Clinic of Iowa Medical Pavilion will put patients at the center of specialty care and contribute to the vitality of our community when completed in 2013.”

The Physicians’ Clinic of Iowa Medical Pavilion is the first private, for-profit investment in downtown Cedar Rapids since the flood of 2008. The building of the facility will bring $16.2 million in construction employment now and $100 million annual economic impact when the doors open in 2013.

“Today’s groundbreaking for Physicians’ Clinic of Iowa Medical Pavilion proves that Iowa’s economy is rebounding by creating construction employment and keeping jobs in downtown Cedar Rapids,” Iowa Governor Terry Branstad said at the ceremony.   “Iowans should be pleased to have this first-of-its-kind facility in our state.”

Devine said Physicians’ Clinic of Iowa Medical Pavilion will provide a convenient way for patients to attend their appointment, receive required testing, pick up a prescription or medical equipment and even grab lunch, all within one location.  The consolidated approach is on the leading edge of health care that is convenient, high quality and efficient.
