PCI Staff have been chosen for national program

Falon Scheer, of PCI ENT Head & Neck Surgery, Kim Rieff of PCI Medical Records, Tammy Johnson of PCI IT, Vanessa Palmer and Kandi Smith of PCI Surgical Specialist have been selected for a nationally recognized training opportunity. 

Leslie Schwarting of the Cedar Rapids Physician-Hospital Organization (CRPHO) was contacted by Mike McLaughlin, PHD who is the Dean of Health Occupations and Medical Simulation at Kirkwood College regarding an exciting Health Information Technology (HIT) training opportunity for individuals in our community.

The Department of Education projects that as many as 50,000 additional HIT professionals will be needed over the next 5 years to support implemention and updates of the electronic health records in the U.S.   Kirkwood received a Federal grant for training.  The program will support about 25 participates that meet the criteria to be chosen.  The curriculum focuses on 6 work force roles including:

  • Practice workflow and information redesign
  • Clinical consultants
  • Implementation support specialists
  • Implementation managers
  • Technical/software support staff
  • Trainers
