The 2010 Arthritis Walk - Cedar Rapids/Iowa City was a great success! Elva Lee Powers, LPN Department of Rheumatology was the PCI Team Captain. Many donations were given for the PCI Treat Day which raised $800.00. Letters were sent to staff, walkers, patients, family and friends who responded generously. The walking event was fun despite the cold weather on May 8th. CONGRATULATIONS to Elva and all those who raised over $3,200. Nice Job!
The final count...$40,448.12 with 334 walkers on 34 different teams. The Arthritis Walk is the Arthritis Foundation's signature fundraising event, taking place in hundreds of cities nationwide typically during the Arthritis Awareness Month in May. The Arthritis Walk is designed to increase public awareness, educate people about the benefits of staying active and raise money to fight arthritis.
This once-a-year opportunity helps improve the lives of the 46 million adults and nearly 300,000 children living in the U.S. By 2030, it is projected that the number of Americans with arthritis will surpass 67 million. In addition to causing pain, the serious and sometimes deadly disease costs the U.S. economy $128 billion each year.
In addition to raising funds, the Arthritis Foundation is working to inform the public of the benefits of walking to ease joint pain, improve mobility, and reduce fatigue associated with arthritis.
